It’s not our challenges that define us, but how we respond to them. In the hardest chapters of my life, it was grit and determination that helped me rise above. And those qualities continue to drive me to improve, grow, and serve others well.

On Cinco de Mayo 2017, I made a decision that changed the direction of my life. I had tried to get sober before—rehabs, meetings, promises to myself and to other people—but this time was different. This time I was done. I made up my mind that whatever it took, I was going to live a different life.

At that point, I was 37 years old and starting over.
For years I had been on the wrong path. All addiction does is take from you: your health, your stability, and even your relationships. By the time I finally got sober, I didn’t have much to show for my name. But I chose not to let addiction define the next chapter. It was the hardest thing I’d overcome, but in rebuilding my life, there was nowhere to go but up. If I could do this, I could do anything.
I moved back in with my parents for a while and focused on rebuilding. There’s no glamour in that stage of life. It’s humbling. But sometimes humility is exactly what you need to start doing things the right way again. I started stacking small wins. I showed up every day, stayed disciplined, and put structure back into my life.

More than anything, I started thinking about the example I wanted to live up to. My dad has always been the kind of man who does things right. He is honest, hardworking, and reliable. The type of person who doesn’t cut corners and doesn’t look for excuses. He gave me a strong example to live up to in this new chapter of my life.

In 2019 I met Andrea, who further changed my life. She already had two children Tristan and Berkley when we met, and we went on to have a son, Bowden. The best way I can describe it is that it’s like taking your heart out of your chest and placing it into another person.
I’d already done a lot of work to improve my life for myself, but now I had others depending on me. You realize what really matters in life very quickly. My priorities became providing for them, setting a good example and making them proud.
In 2021, I got my real estate license. I started leaning into what I’d always been naturally wired for: sales and building relationships. I’d worked sales jobs before, but I knew I didn’t want to spend my life building someone else’s business. I wanted something where the results were directly tied to how hard I was willing to work. And real estate was the perfect fit.Growing up, my dad built homes so I was always around construction. I spent plenty of time on job sites doing the grunt work. But I also enjoyed the process of building something from the ground up. In real estate, I get to be part of that same kind of transformation for people.

For most families, buying or selling a home is the biggest financial decision they’ll ever make. And I take that responsibility seriously. I protect my clients, guide them through the process, and make sure they’re making the right decisions. Because at the end of the day, I want to follow the example of my father: be honest, work hard, and do the job right.

Today I have so much to be grateful for: my family, my work, and a life full of purpose. I want to be a good dad, a good partner to Andrea, and the kind of person people trust and can rely on. And even though I’ve come a long way, I’m always focused on continuing to improve a little bit every day.
Since starting my real estate career in 2021, my business has grown year over year, and today I lead the Ence Realty Group. Building a team has allowed us to serve more clients while maintaining the same level of attention, responsiveness, and care that people deserve during such an important decision.
My approach has always been to treat every deal as if it’s my own. My job isn’t just to open doors or write contracts, it’s to guide clients through every step of the process so they feel confident, informed, and protected along the way. That means spotting the concerns in a home, structuring smart offers, strategically marketing listings, and negotiating on your behalf to reach the best outcome. I believe in laying everything out clearly, explaining the process, and helping clients understand their options before making decisions.
Real estate can feel overwhelming if you don’t know what to expect. That is why I work hard to simplify it for my clients, anticipate challenges, and eliminate surprises whenever possible. At the end of the day, my focus is simple: helping people make smart decisions, protecting their investment, and making the entire experience as smooth as possible.
Sincerely,

Gregory Ence
